Recipient of the first Ruth Lorraine Close Fellowship for graduate study in composition at University of Oregon (1973), Funk holds degrees from Portland State University and is ABD in the tri-university doctoral program (Portland State, University of Oregon, Oregon State University). Currently on the faculty at Montana State University and the 2007 Presidents Excellence in Teaching Award recipient, he teaches for the University Honors College (awarded the 2009 Distinguished Service Award), College of Letters and Science, and for the music department (composition, orchestration). Nicki has filled a void in music with her brand of vintage-tinged rocking country soul -- music thats like an enchanting friend youve known for a short while but feels like youve known forever.Nickis story began at a New Years Eve party when she sang an impromptu blues song that caught the attention of musician/producer Tim Bluhm (The Mother Hips). With Tims encouragement Nicki began to write songs and perform in public, and soon was earning fans of her own. She worked in numerous animal shelters and soon began teaching obedience classes in hopes of creating better relationships between dogs and their owners. Although training dogs is much different then horses, Kim found many similarities… “My job is to teach people how to be successful in communicating with their animals in a positive manner.” Beyond obedience training, Kim has also trained dogs as service dogs and search and rescue canines.
